Tea, Culture and Tourism Integration Enabling Sustainable Development of Border Villages
In the thematic forum “Agriculture, Culture and Tourism Integration and Construction of Harmonious Countryside”, Chairman Zhang Yafeng made a wonderful speech of “Tea Fragrance to the Far East, Integration and Co-survival – Tea, Culture and Tourism Integration to Empower the Sustainable Development of Border Countryside”. She said it was a great honor to be invited to this international forum, standing on the stage of China’s historic achievement in poverty reduction, and gathering with global partners committed to poverty reduction governance and sustainable development in Nujiang, Yunnan to discuss the proposition of “integration of agriculture, culture and tourism to build a harmonious and beautiful countryside”. Dayi always believes that the power of a piece of tea is enough to transcend mountains and rivers, connect the world, and write a new chapter of integration and coexistence on the fertile soil of rural revitalization.

Eighty-five years ago, the Fohai Experimental Tea Factory (the predecessor of Menghai Tea Factory), which was built to revitalize China’s tea industry, was formally put into operation. Several generations of Daiyi people have gone through great hardships to create a new era for the Daiyi brand, and the Daiyi Group, which has Menghai Tea Factory as its core enterprise, has lived up to its name of “leading enterprise of China’s tea industry”, and has driven the Puerh Tea industry to the international arena. The “Dayi Tea Production Technique” has been selected to the United Nations’ list of human non-legacy, gaining recognition and attention from the world. In the process of enterprise development, Daiyi has always adhered to the tenet of “Achievement in the society, dedication to the society”, and actively integrated into the national strategy of poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.
Menghai County is the core production area of China’s Pu’er tea, and has been the “hard core” of Yunnan’s poverty alleviation campaign. 2005 to 2023, Dayi purchased about 166,000 tons of raw materials of gross tea, purchased about 7.43 billion yuan of funds, and paid about 3.67 billion yuan of local taxes, benefiting 280,000 tea farmers in Menghai County, which has provided stable incomes and a good environment for the local tea farmers. This not only provides a stable income for local tea farmers and adds vitality to the local economy, but is also recognized by the Yunnan Provincial Leading Group of Poverty Alleviation and Development as a “Model of Social Poverty Alleviation”.
